It’s “Oscars” Time Showcasing Passion for Fashions
March 10, 2024

The 96th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and for those of you who are extremely lucky to be invited and attend this mega glamorous event of the year (and I am extremely jealous!!)  the first question that pops up: What to wear?

Turn for the inspiration and exploration of the “Fashioning San Francisco: A Century of Style” – the current exquisite exhibit at the city’s de Young Museum (now through August 11, 2024) featuring one of the most iconic collections of 20th and 21st century women’s clothing in the United States which includes over 100 items, along with local loans of high fashion and haute couture. Showcasing designs from French couturiers, Japanese avant-garde designers, and other pillars of the fashion industry including Cristian Dior and Alexander McQueen among other stars of the fashion industry reflect San Francisco’s long-standing tradition of self-expression through passion for fashion. You can preview your new couture look with the immediate assistance and partnership of the de Young Museum with the Snap AR fashion try-on.

P.S. And please say Hi from me to my favorite actor Cillian Murphy, who I am sure will win an Oscar for the lead performance in the award winning movie “Oppenheimer.”

Jack London State Historic Park presents:

“Women Composers Not Forgotten” Piano Concert

March 17, 2024 at 2 p.m.

Enjoy a  very exciting program of music exclusively composed by women!  Performed by the talented  members of the Jack London Piano Club it pays tribute to women  during the National Womens’ History Month.

Purely by coincidence, four of the six pianists performing are women, including Louise Bettner, Debbie Knapp, Esfir Ross, and Nomi Yah. Musical styles will include classical (including Amy Beach, the first successful American female composer of large-scale art music), ragtime and popular music by Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush. The music will be performed on Charmian London’s 1901 Steinway piano, located on the second floor of the House of Happy Walls, Charmian’s former home and now the museum of Jack and Charmian’s life together in the Valley of the Moon. The Jack London Piano Club has presented concerts quarterly since 2011, raising more than $20,000 to benefit the park which is operated by a nonprofit organization and receives no public funding. Even before she met Jack London, Charmian was an accomplished pianist.  She initially purchased the 1901 Steinway on an installment plan.  After receiving a hefty sum from his publisher, Jack gave Charmian $500 to finish payment and bring the piano to the ranch, where it became the center of entertainment for Jack London’s many guests.

Concert tickets are $20 per person including the parking fee (regularly $10 per car for up to nine passengers). Seating is limited. To reserve tickets, visit https://jacklondonpark.com/events/women-composers
