San Francisco Opera’s Department of Diversity, Equity and Community (DEC) has announced new Opera Aficionado virtual conversations in July centered on Opera in Latin America. The live, 75-minute Zoom discussions offer music lovers around the world a front-row seat to scholarly talks and conversations and an opportunity to dialogue with fellow opera enthusiasts and special guests. Speakers in July include Emilio Sagi, director of San Francisco Opera staging of Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Don Carlo and Otello; musicologist Laura Prichard and multidisciplinary artist Albert Montañez. Join San Francisco Opera’s interactive lecture series, “Opera Aficionado” for a summer vacation south of the border, no mask or passport required. Ports of call include the origins of sacred choral music and Baroque opera in the New World, contemporary Latin stories written for today’s stage and the Zarzuela, the beloved Spanish tradition of musical storytelling. Journey each Sunday through music and time while rediscovering a centuries-old cultural landscape in which opera continues to thrive. Thank you San Francisco Opera!

The Fairmont Hotel’s Tonga Room Reopens

[/images] Rejoice! The Tonga Room and Hurricane Bar, located on the Terrace Level of the city’s most famous and glamorous Fairmont Hotel, is ready to serve you the Fog Cutters, Zombies and Mai Tais! The hotel’s iconic Tiki Bar will reopen with their magnificent cuisine, Polynesian-inspired cocktails and delicious appetizers, all served to the thundering sounds of tropical thunderstorms and the music of Top-40 band. The inviting ambience of the original décor created in 1945 by MGM set designer Mel Melvin, will whisk you away to a dreamy world of tropics of the hotel’s movie-style setting right in the heart of San Francisco’s Nob Hill. teamLab: Continuity at Asian Art Museum

[/images] The beauty of nature comes alive in the stunning exhibit of teamLab: Continuity, where you will find yourself immersed in a wondrous ecosystem of lush imagery drawn from nature and East Asian art that dynamically evolves around you. The “audience-tickling blockbuster” showcases sumptuous images of inky crows and fluorescent flowers, fluttering butterflies and darting fish propel you to wander, to pause, and to marvel. The Tokyo-based international collective teamLab is renowned for its interactive, interconnected digital artworks that dissolve boundaries between artwork and viewer, inside and outside, and art and technology. “Everything exists in a long, fragile yet miraculous borderless continuity of life,” says teamLab founder Toshiyuki Inoko. “For teamLab, technology is a means rather than an end. Your experience is not about the digital realm but instead about the natural world — portrayed as a pulsing, transforming, interconnected ecosystem — and your place in it.” Have fun and if you plan to visit this exhibit on Sunday the Museum has reopened with grab-and-go offerings and beverages! Enjoy a selection of Japanese sandwiches, Boba Guys drinks, and a new addition to the menu, the chirashi bowl. teamLab: Continuity is the first exhibition in the museum’s new Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang Pavilion.
