San Francisco in one day. Mission Is possible!

While waiting for my flight at the airport I overheard a conversation. Passengers next to me were excited and complaining at the same time. Both of them were heading to San Francisco and regretting only having one day to spend there. I silently thanked them and started writing this article on the napkin (the only travel writing supply available at the moment).

Here is what you can see in one day in the fabulous city of San Francisco.

Golden Gate Bridge

The absolutely number one thing that comes to your mind when you say San Fran. Beautiful, and recognized around the world, it’s a must see place. It is easy to get there either by driving or using public transportation. Phenomenal views of the red colored bridge covered by the clouds and mist will take your breath away. I suggest getting there early to avoid countless tourists and traffic.

If you have your own transportation you can also stop by the Palace of Fine Arts. It is conveniently located on the way to/from Golden Gate.

Pier 39 and Fisherman Warf

The smell of the Bay, fish, and noise of the boats and seagulls stealing your food is a part of the Bay Area experience you cannot miss.  This is the centerpiece of San Francisco. Go for an early walk among the piers, enjoy the Sea lions and fresh air. Try the famous clam chowder in a bread bowl. It tastes better when you sit at the pier and watch the waves rolling through the bay. My secret recipe 🙂

Union Square

If you are looking for a shopping paradise don’t look any further! All kind of stores, boutiques, and brand names. If shopping wasn’t on your list just walk through the square and enjoy the street art.

China Town

Plenty of street art, bargain deals for souvenirs, and authentic Asian restaurants. Loud and crowded but definitely fun to visit.

Golden Gate Park

If you still have an hour or two left (and some energy!) head out to the park. It is only half an hour away from the airport so it is better to visit last. Beautiful green oasis with lakes, gardens, a waterfall and a few museums. A relaxing and peaceful way to end a trip.

There are many ways to get around the city: by car, public transportation or hop-on-hop-off buses. Every option has pros and cons. However, you should definitely try to ride a trolley. I absolutely love the vintage trolleys! This is so San Francisco! So fashionable and historical it will highlight your visit. Live one day like a local! Hop on to one of those trolleys and ride to about anywhere.

While you won’t be able to explore many other things, but with so much San Francisco has to offer, you will definitely get the taste of this fabulous and misty city.
