Who knew the doctors have time for music? Well, surprise, surprise! Stanford University is proud to announce this year’s annual Medicine & the Muse Student Symposium, a celebration of the many artistic, literary, musical and other creative scholarly talents at the Stanford School of Medicine.
This year, Symposium will feature the Stanford School of Medicine Orchestra, comprised of faculty, students and staff from Stanford Medicine and Stanford Health, led by conductor Mr. Terrance Yan. The program’s repertoire is very impressive and will showcase Leroy Anderson Irish Suite The Irish Washerwoman; The Minstrel Boy; The Last Rose of Summer; The Rakes of Mallow; George Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue with pianist Vivian Lou; Mikhail Glinka Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila; Jean Sibelius Karelia Suite, Op. Patricia Racette Sings Edith Piaf in San Francisco
April 19 & 20 at 7:30pm at Presidio Theatre
If you are a fan and full of nostalgic memories of Edith Piaf, this concert is definitely for you. An iconic artist of our time, Grammy Award-winning soprano Patricia Racette conjures the timeless power and viscerally authentic impact of the most famous and legendary French singer Édith Piaf (1915-1963).
Racette is acclaimed on the world’s opera and concert stages and is a particular favorite of San Francisco Opera audiences, celebrated for her deeply emotional performances, impeccable technique and dramatic range. The Los Angeles Times called her, “The most fearless woman in opera.” And these are qualities for which Piaf was widely known, making her artistry an ideal fit for Racette’s interpretations. Racette will be joined by pianist and arranger Craig Terry, who currently serves as Music Director of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago. The program will feature songs such as Non, Je ne Regretted Rien, Milord, Padam Padam, La Vie en Rose, L’Accordeoniste, and Hymns a L’Amour.

Ready for Some Bourbon Scoop? The Munch Madness Reaches Concord!
Ice cream for adults is a match made in heaven… well for some of us.. And at Humphry Slocombe, one of the most famous and popular ice cream companies in the Bay Area, they like to think that ice cream or liquor will make just about anything better (and a combo of the two covers all bases).
If you don’t know the history of Humphry Slocombe and their boozy, frozen treats, here’s a little background. One of their most popular flavors of all time is their signature Secret Breakfast – bourbon ice cream with corn flakes. Yes, bourbon. In the 10 years since their foundation, they’ve created more drunken (no, you won’t get drunk eating their ice cream) flavors like Jesus Juice (red wine and Coca Cola) and White Russian Black Forest (White Russian cocktail and Black Forest cake). They are also famous or should I say infamous for creating the “Elvis the Fat Years” flavor. To keep the tradition going, they are kicking off the boozy ice cream location in Concord, the 10th scoop shop in the Bay Area, but let’s be real – the diet starts tomorrow. Check them out in Concord, Contra Costa County. Driving safely is always a priority!

Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana Brings Excitement to the City by The Bay.

Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana is one of the nation’s most prominent flamenco and Spanish dance companies and is dedicated to honoring the traditions of flamenco while expanding the art form in new directions.
Throughout their history, they have employed emerging dance/music artists, and have premiered more than two dozen original works, offering commissions to outstanding US choreographers as well as renowned artists from Spain. Flamenco keeps the flame burning with the exciting dancing, music and singing.
