Palace of Fine Arts Turned to Pickleball as of July 11, 2023

The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco listened to my prayers! For those of us who’s knees are too weak to play tennis… the nice people at the Palace created a new and extremely popular opportunity for us to join the latest rage in sports: the Pickleball!

The pickleball courts have been fashioned out of a space at the Palace of Fine Arts that appears to be the former Exploratorium Museum, and they are available for reservations to quench the city’s high demand among pickleball enthusiasts.

The new pickleball courts are located in one of the high-ceilinged warehouse spaces at the Palace of Fine Arts. “We are thrilled to further expand access to pickleball, an incredibly social and inclusive sport that has brought joy to so many new players over the past few years,” says SF Recreation and Park Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg in a statement. As of this week, there are 64 available courts in the city for playing pickleball, up from just 12 in 2018, the parks department notes. Once the Palace of Fine Arts courts open, that number will be 67, and that will include 17 dedicated pickleball courts and 50 tennis courts that have had new striping and wheel-able pickleball nets added to accommodate pickleball playing. Thanks Phil, see you at the Palace! Princess Lina.

“Tina – The Tina Turner” Musical in San Francisco

August 1 through 27, 2023

She was called “Simply The Best! Her voice was undeniable. Her fire was unstoppable. Her triumph was unlike any other.” Set to the pulse-pounding soundtrack of the most beloved hits from the one and only Queen of Rock n’ Roll, “Tina – The Tina Turner” Musical follows the journey of the beloved and the world’s best selling performing artists in the history of music.

Tina Turner has won 12 Grammy Awards and her live shows have been seen by millions, with more concert tickets sold than any other solo performer. Featuring her much loved songs, Tina – The Tina Turner Musical is written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Katori Hall and directed by the internationally acclaimed Phyllida Lloyd. I am never tired of listening to Tina or watching her videos. Did you know she taught Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones fame “Pony” – her famous signature prancing footwork and dance moves? “He caught on fast,” she said. My life was enriched by seeing her perform at the SAP Center’s Arena in San Jose.
